In the past two years American roots music has seen a revival in
popularity of massive proportions. Artists such as the Dixie Chicks and Nickel
Creek have brought this music to an audience that was unimaginable just five
years ago. Alathea (pronounced a-la-thea), a name derived from the Greek word
for Truth, is a trio from East Tennessee singing their own self-described brand
of Popalachian music. A mixture of folk, pop, bluegrass and gospel, these indie
darlings bring their third album to a national audience for the Rocketown
debut. Fans of the Dixie Chicks and the O, Brother soundtrack will certainly
fall in love with this release, as will fans of roots-oriented Christian music
such as Caedmons Call, Jennifer Knapp and Bebo Norman. After meeting through
their work with Young Life, these three girls began traveling throughout the
country, playing for audiences as diverse as they are energetic. Their first
two releases have sold thousands of copies, and allowed the girls to maintain a
full-time touring and recording schedule for almost five years, playing 150+
dates a year across the country. Drawing upon the musical heritage of their
East Tennessee home, What Light Is All About is a stirring collection of
songs inspired by the girls own awe of the beauty God has created, as well as a
desire to provide an experience that draws listeners to a deeper understanding
of Gods presence in their lives. Provident Music
